Fattoria Lavacchio is a fabulous elegant estate formerly owned by the noble Florentine family Strozzi and now owned and operated by the Lottero family, originally from Genoa.  There are 110 hectors (about 250 acres) devoted to grapes, olives and wheat production, along with 5 star guest accommodations, stables and a great restaurant, Mulino a Vento (the Windmill).  The estate is also home of the Innocenti family ceramics studio, one of Italy’s most important ceramicists. The Vineyard includes Italy’s only working windmill from which is produced flour for the estate’s bread and pasta.   Fattoria Lavacchio is an organic farm that produces 7 wine varieties and exquisite extra virgin olive oil pressed at the estate.  The estate is set in the magnificent surroundings of Montefiesole, about 16 kilometers from Florence.  The extraordinary panoramic views from 400 meters above sea level, across the Chianti countryside, are stupendous.  Activities on the farm include equestrian, mountain biking, cooking demonstrations, programs devoted to wine and olive oil production, Italian language study, ceramics workshops, swimming, among others.  Capriccio, under the guidance of Jim Rua, has been taking travelers to Fattoria Lavacchio with our successful travel programs for the past 15 years and have a special closeness with the Lottero Family and the Vineyard.

Fattoria Lavacchio is not just any Vineyard!  The farm is both an elegant Inn, world class organic Tuscan vineyard, as well as a culinary jewel featuring the classic rustic flavors of the celebrated Chianti Region.  The property hosts a number of accommodation options including the main house of Casa Bella as well as a number of family apartments in neighboring historic villas a few steps from both the main house and restaurant known as Mulino a Vento.  Each room features classic Italian styling, beautiful views, mini-frig, blow dryers, private bath, internet access, as well as a spectacular country breakfast buffet, outdoor patios and access to horseback riding, massage, truffle hunting, mountain biking, walking trails and a crystal clear pool with cabana service.  Each room has a private bath, mini frig, personal safe, and blow dryers et al

The Italians say that in Rome, every brick is history

and in Florence, every cobblestone is art!

While in Florence, the epicenter of Italian high culture and art, we will be enjoying accommodations at the historic Bernini Palace just steps away from the Uffizi Gallery (home of Botticelli's Birth of Venus) as well as the Galleria dell' Accademia (also known as the house of Michelangelo's David). You can also stroll the many piazzas day or night and enjoy shopping, restaurants and cafes as well as many street musicians and artists.  The feel of life in Florence is like no other city in Italy.  Firenze is a feast for the eyes and the mind as well as your culinary desires.

We are most grateful to have a special friendship with two of the very best professional guides in Italy.  Carolyn Bosi will be our key guide from the moment we arrive until the day we depart.  Carolyn has been with us on every trip for the past 25 years and we would not think of coming to Italy without her special guidance and professionalism in addition to her constant good spirit and good humor.  Elvio Ancilloto will serve as our cultural guide while in Florence and will escort us to both the Uffizi and the Accademia and will sure to make every piece of art come to life in the special way that only he can express.  Both Carolyn and Elvio are personal friends as well as two of the most sought after guides in Italy.  We are most grateful to have them as our go-to specialists when in Italy.

Florence speaks for itself.  Just come and get used to your eyes being perpetually wide with wonder and excitement at the beauty of Italy's most important cultural epicenter!
